    adjusting hood striker '67

My driver's side hood pops up while driving. I shimmed the inboard side of the receiver opening (female end) with some duct tape and it fixed it. I want to get rid of the tape. It doesn't look to me as if the receiver can be adjusted right left so it looks as if I'll need to adjust the striker (male end on the hood) outboard a little. I see 3 black circles that look like they may hide screws at the base of the striker but they didn't want to pry off easily with a small screwdriver. Before I go forcing (breaking) anything, I thought I would ask here if this is the way to fix this.

    Thanks!

Ron, you may want to be sure the slide in the female receiver is popping out when the hood is up. It is not uncommon for the cables to stick and that slide to not release all the way - also the wires may require some tweaking to release ( be sure nothing is in a bind) - from what you describe I suspect this may be the problem.

Carl, I do have to push the hood release in a little to fully reset it so the slide reengages. But it does and the striker just wants to divert inboard for some reason and not "click" onto the receiving slider unless I shim in outward slightly.

Ron, you might try allowing some slack in the wire to the side that pops open, you can loosen the set screws in the small brass holders and let some slack out - be very careful bending the wire as it is very brittle and will snap off. Another trick - always push the hood release in before you lower the hood, with the hood resting on the male pins push the side that pops up down by hand - then the other side. If you intend to try for PV this will not work! I looked thru my AIM and Shop manual and did not see anything regarding side-to-side shims just up or down to obtain correct hood height. Maybe someone who has had this problem will chime in with other ideas.
