    Door Fuzzies

Has anyone had experience getting aftermarket door fuzzies to fit properly? The problem is at the front door post radius where it goes horizontal to where the reveal starts. There just isn't enough clearance between the fuzzies and the window frame. The fuzzy material has to be collapsed almost flush with the bead in order to clear the frame. It is so tight it almost stalls out the motor (power window car) trying to get the frame past the post. The only new parts are the fuzzies. Everything else is original, cleaned up, and lightly lubed. Without the fuzzies the window goes up and down with ease. The window fit is good, even around the top.

The new fuzzies appear to be nearly identical to the originals, but can't tell about the thickness of the fuzzy material as the old fuzzies are badly worn.

Anyone have any experience with this? Car is a 57.

    Thanks,
    Dan D.

i lay the repo fuzzes(from CC) on an anvil and take a body hammer to them. ya gotta flatten the fuzzy while taking care not to squash the stainless beading. even then, the windows roll up[ with more resistence than originally.mike

You can also try positioning them in a vise and squeezing them to flatten them out.
I feel that most of the problems occur at the front of the fuzzies where they are in the door post.

        Re: Door Fuzzies

Thank You Mike. I will try that. Never thought about beating the tar out of them with a hammer. Mine are also from CC.

Bruce, you are absolutely correct in that the problem is at the door post. I will try squeezing them first before beating on them.

I went to a local cruz night on Wednesday and looked at a fairly nice 1960. It was probably quite original, but definitely needed some tender loving care. The fuzzies were still there, but beat up some. I did note that the window frame almost contacts the bead, indicating that the fuzzy material has to be just about fully compressed right up to the bead, and most definitely at the front post area.

The window frame is .465 wide, so I am using a 29/64 drill shank as a go/no-go gauge. If I can slide the drill shank back and forth between the fuzzies, then the window should also slide. So far it has been a no-go. But I now know for sure there is nothing wrong with the assembly. The fuzzies are just too thick.

I was out of town all of yesterday, and now I am a bachelor for a couple of days. Now maybe I can get something done!

        Thanks again guys.
