I removed the carpet and insulation almost 3 years ago at the beginning of a frame-off restoration and in the midst of installing new material. I kept the old carpeting and noticed the carpet section that covers the floor and back panel of the rear storage area has a strip of the original jute padding w/rubber backing (approx. 10" x 36") glued to the vertical portion that surrounds the courtesy light and a similar strip next to it that covers the first 10" of the floor in the rear of the storage area. There isn't any additional padding attached to the carpet or evidence there was padding covering the center and front portion of the storage area flooring. The question: Was only the rear first 10 inches of the floor covered with padding or was the entire floor covered up to the storage compartments. All the replacement kits offered have the complete floor covered. Thanks...Clark

Re: 1970 Rear Compartment Insulation Question
Thanks Mike...The pics were a big help. We've had this car since 1972 and like you, believe I was the first to remove the rear carpeting. I didn't find the J P Stevens tag for the floor, only the tag for the L H wheel cover section dated 3/9/70. Your photo confirms from front to rear there was a 10" +/- section next to the storage compartments that did not have jute padding for reasons I'm not sure about. Behind the unpadded section, there were two sections of padding exactly like yours. Will install the floor section over the weekend. Appreciate your follow-up...Clark- Top
