    Convince Me!

Hi to all you C3 guys. Please take no offense because I know nothing about the C3 as I have always owned c1 aand C2 cars. I currently have a 1967 convertible. I recently have been salivating over a 1970 LT1 coupe that is completely done, judged and has paperwork. I have an interest in buying it. All my C2 friends turn their nose up. They say if it did not have an LT1 motor the car could be bought for next to nothing and that really is what you are paying for. They make the coparison to the styling and interiot room of the C2 and are trying to convinvce me that a Shark doesn't have that. I love all things Corvette and the LT1 would be in addition to the 67 not a replacemnt. Tell me about your cars and what you like both in style and in the mechanicals.

Of course that is true, but I want to know about the C3, likes and dislikes from folks that love them.

I'm a long time solid axle and mid year guy. Still own them. I got the urge to buy an early C3 big block about 7 years ago. I found a nice 68 427/390 coupe and love it. It drives every bit as good, if not better than a mid year. The sculpted fenders look great and the view from the driver's seat over a big block or LT-1 hood is great. Go for it. You will not be disappointed. I enjoy my 68 as much as any of my cars. The LT-1 is a great motor that accelerates like a big block.

Partly depends on your (personal) size. I'm 6'1 and found the footwells and headroom of a '72 BB to be pretty confining, but that is personal and varies from person to person. Drive one and see what your personal take is.

            Hi Robert:
Those who say these cars are worth "next to nothing" don't keep close tabs on the market, especially for nice ones. After driving my '71 BB for 42 years, it is still a rush each time I crank it up. How many of them do you see going down the road? Best regards.

The body lines of the early C3's ('68 to '72) are simply beautiful, timeless in design and still turn heads everywhere. The interiors do not look dated like the C1's and C2's. These models also incorporated some really neat features for their time. The innovative fiberoptic light panels, the removeable rear window, the removeable roof panels, the hideaway wipers and panel. Brute powerplants both in big and small block configurations.

Why try to convince a possible buyer. Many of us know how great these cars are but they are not for everyone. This car sounds like a high end C3 so why not save it for a buyer who already has an appreciation for a car like this. Is it possible that the car is priced so attractively that it is being considered for that reason.

If you are asking NCRS members to convince you to buy a car, one question - Did other owners have to convince you to buy the 67?

My favorite Corvettes are the early C3s, and I echo Warren's comment about the classic styling. When we cruise with the local club (where most everyone owns very late C3s through C6s), I am amazed that my 1972 BB draws the attention in a parking lot.

                      Well said, I agree completely.

Maybe convinve was the wrong word. I just want to know why C3 owners like their cars.

My first Corvette was a C3 and although I don't currently own one I've have had several over the years. The way one sits back in the seat and the huge swooping fenders to look over gives me an Adrenaline rush just thinking about it. Just don't forget there is about 2 feet of front end out there you can't see.

There's even something cool about the later C3 automatics when you pop them in drive and body squats what feels like about 4 inches.

Interesting to still hear this. When I was a kid growing up in the 70's the older guys all told me the vette died in '68. I can't recall how many C1 & C2 guys hated the C3's and still to this day don't like them. Then I started to hear how the vette died in '73, then again in 84, etc, etc, etc. All depends on what you like. Take the body off the C2 and C3 and the C3's have more reinforcements in the frame but otherwise they are not too much different.

                            You wear a C3, you sit in a C1 & C2.

I would say drive a couple and then make up your mind. A '70 LT1 car is pretty darn nice but if you want a powerful C3 to drive you're better off building one up, it will cost you less in the long one if you do the work. We have a 75 coupe my son drives that is now a low 11 or faster car.

I don't know if the C3 will ever hit the values of the 1's & 2's but they are a good car. As far as value where will it be for most of the street vettes in 10 years when the older crowd stops driving them or dies out? Most young guys are not into old vettes due to cost and availability now.

Buy it and drive it if you like it.

You guys have all given good stuff for me to think about. I owned my first C2, a 1967 327/350 in 1968. I have had them all. I have medical issues now and do not drive anymore, but I still love going to the cruises, shows, auctions and just sitting and talking about the cars. When my wife and I take our 67 Goodwood Green BB convertible to a cruise, we park ourselves in the folding chairs and all I do is talk about the car to many folks that keep coming. I enjoy that. I think a beautiful C3 will garner the same interest. I am not particularly worried about values, because if that is why you bought it you have a screw loose. I am not on the wrong side of the grass yet. Save the Wave.
