    66 Dash Cluster help

Okay, I made a mistake! I took my gauges out of the cluster in a hurry so I could take them to Carlisle for restoration. When I removed them from the small metal holders a small flexible connector that slides on two post of one of the small gauges fell off. It has to be either the Fuel, Battery or Temperature, I check all my books and wiring diagrams and new parts catalogs and can'nt find it or which gauge used it. Any help would be handy, thanks in advance sincerely Brian Kotula

    Brian,

Could it be the resistor for the temperature gauge, it's there to calibrate the hot reading. A picture may be helpful.

Hi Tim, I wish I could post a pic, I included it with the gauges, I didn't know if it was needed for the gauge restoration. It's thin and about 1/4 inch wide and has a hole on either end for the posts of a gauge to fit thru. It's definitely factory, did the temperature gauge have a resistor from the factory? It sucks when your rushing around!!!

Here is a photo of the backside of my 67 cluster. It should be the same. Note the position of the various phenolic tabs on the gauges. One should have a wirewound resistance on it. Make sure the orientation of the tabs is the same as shown.

          Brian,

The shunt is on the temp gauge. Notice the temp gauge has a plastic spacer on the back and the shunt goes between the poles. The temp gauge will NOT read correct without the shunt.

Thanks Joe your a life saver!! So it goes between the gauge and the mounting plate hidden by the plastic spacer, correct?
