C2 Type I, II and III Jack Manufacturer's Painting Procedure

Were the C2 Type I, II, and III jacks dip painted or just sloppily spray painted? I have seen paint runs on several original jacks so that's why I'm asking. Also was Acme threaded jack screw painted gloss black with the jack or left natural? I know the bearing should not be painted hence the question about the jack screw.

I’m trying to finish the restoration of a 1965 type II jack and would like to know what the gloss black paint job should look like.

    Thanks,

    James,

They were dipped in gloss black paint held by the jack screw on some type of conveyor. That is why the screw is painted on the nut end anywhere from two to three inches including the nut. The rest of the screw is natural as it was not submerged in the paint. The color of the gloss black paint varied because of age, humidity and temperature. After all this was a jack hidden and never needed to be shown. NCRS judging was the last thing on the mind of the Ausco workers.
