    1962 Grill Bar Width

What is the width of an OE or NOS grille bar? Mine measures 27" in front and 27 1/4" in back.
I have a gap of 1/4" on both sides of bumper.

My 1962 #29 is 27" across the front and 27 5/16" across the back +-1/16.

Are you sure your bumper brackets are not bent?

The bumpers are tight against the rubber, and it's tight against the fender. I don't see how to move them in any closer.

My measurements and appearance are in agreement with John's. Virtually no gap.

I recently had the identical problem on a '60. I had 1/4" grille to bumper gap both sides and the left bumper was outward too far. The side fender was in stress from the bumper attachment and I couldn't get the brackets adjusted to help.

              This worked for me........
Remove the side bolt and outer rubber and bolt spacer. Cut the outer rubber piece in half so you have 1/2 of the original thickness, about 3/16" less. I use a hacksaw in a woodworkers wide vice. Cut the bolt spacer as needed to match the total thickness needed. Use the new thinner rubber slice on the outside and reassemble. This will bring the bumpers inward a bit without stressing the sides of the fender.
