Re: Founders award
From memory, which is not so good, as y'all have heard me state before. It is also late at night. I maybe shouldn’t even post this because I might muddy the waters, but I’ll try.
Register for Founders judging at a Chapter Meet . Drive to that Chapter Meet, and pass the founders operation Operations check. (I can not remember if the car has to be Flight Judged or not -- look it up.
AFTER the Chapter meet; do the same thing for a Regional.
Then after the Regional do the same thing for a National Convention, but this time you also have to join the Road Tour for at least 500 miles of the drive. LOOPHOLE: You only have to drive that 500 miles TO the convention. After the convention you can load the car on a trailer to get home, if you want.
There all sorts of other requirements: Same car to all those events?? Time limit to do this?? I can not remember -- it has been too long and there are too many other awards to get it confused with. That is why I recommend looking it up for yourself. It would be a shame to do most of this, but fail on a technicality because someone like me posted the wrong information.Terry- Top

Re: Founders award
If you look at my profile you will see a Chapter Judging of my 1970 in Berwyn, IL. The only NCRS Chapter meet ever held in that town, and just by coincidence I happen to still reside there. See what I mean?Terry- Top

Re: Founders award
Lyndon,
You really need to get a Judging Reference Manual to prepare for participating in any of the NCRS programs. As far as the Founders goes, you have three years to accomplish the following:
Be a member of any NCRS chapter continuously during the three years
Achieve any flight award at a chapter meet driven both ways
Achieve a 96% Founders Operations score at a regional meet driven both ways (different than a flight operations)
Achieve a level one or higher in the judging or tabulating recognition program
Submit and gain approval for publication of at least one article in the Corvette Restorer Magazine
Participate in a planned and recognized road tour for at least the last 500 miles
Display at the National Convention and again achieve a 96% Founders Operations score
Again, it would be in your best interest to acquire a Judging Reference Manual to prepare for any NCRS judged program. Let us know how it all turns out.- Top

Re: Founders award
And I should too, but I was short on time last night. Thanks to Arland for the accurate information. Arland does it have to be with the same car at each event? That part has been bugging me.Terry- Top

Re: Founders award
I believe it does have to be the same car, Terry. Of course, I only own the one and that is what I drove for Founders. The plaque has the VIN on it just like a Duntov or Bowtie Award. I think that Sportsman is the only award which allows use of different cars.- Top

Re: Founders award
I cheated this time -- I looked it up.
Edit add: Someone drove a 1963 over 4000 miles to the Convention in Hampton, but I am not sure that car was judged. However, that might give you some idea of the kind of competition you might be in for. The Sam Folz Award is highly coveted and there is stiff competition.Terry- Top

Re: Founders award
Lyndon,
It appears that you live in the middle part of the country so it will be difficult to be the longest driven at a national without some extra effort and extra planning ahead of time. If you lived in the Northwest, being longest driven would be more likely when attending Eastern nationals :-)

Re: Founders award
For Sam Foltz if you need additional mileage to be competive for the award you can join muliple road tours around the country to add to your mileage. Make sure that the National Judging Chair knows what your plans are. Requires some careful planning to achieve this award.Ed DiNapoli
