    '64 Heat Riser question

This is one of those embarrassing questions that I THINK I should know the answer too, but can't come up with it:

Did the mid year fuelie cars have heat risers? I'm trying to figure what purpose they would serve on a fuel car, but don't recall knowing that they don't. If they don't use the heat riser, does it need a spacer on the left side for the pipe to fit right?

Norris, the 64 FI engines used a spacer, not a heat riser with a valve.

Thanks Bob. Is that true with the '62's and '63's also?

No FI engines had heat riser valves. The FI spacer was just a partially machined heat riser valve body that didn't have the spring or valve. There is a 2" version used with 2" outlet manifolds, and a 2.5" version for 2.5" outlet manifolds.

'64 FI engines have 2.5" manifolds and spacer.

Thanks guys. I've actually used the spacer in the past on some stock appearing Big Block stuff that had manifolds that I didn't want a heat riser in, so I'm familiar with the 2 1/2" version.

What I'm REAL unfamiliar with is fuelie stuff. I've got 2 of 'em of my own that I've never heard run (I've never even ridden in a fuelie) and a friend just bought a '64 Coupe that's not all he thought it'd be, so I guess I'm looking at a steep learning curve helping him with it while re kindling the enthusiasm for two of my old warehouse queens.

The spacer is on the right side, and the reason fuelies don't have a heat riser valve is because they do not have exhaust cross over passages in the manifold like a carbureted engine to preheat the mixture. The passages are in the heads, but are blocked off at the manifold.
