    part # questions for 63 swc early, retainers and nuts

    Hi, I'm James, restarting the 63 restoration after 10+ years that my dad left in moth balls.
    have came across the following NOS parts: Retainer 9785742, washer 3790342, nuts 225854, retainers 25628204, and 3714369 . Are these correct for an early 63 swc. Thank you for any help or insight.

    James------

    GM #9785742------upper control arm bushing retainer. This part not originally used for 1963 but it is SERVICE for the 1963 application and very similar to the original retainer;

    GM #3790342------front shock upper retainer; used for 1965-82 Corvettes; not correct for 1963.

    GM #225854-------3/8-24 nut. This nut is actually a connecting rod nut but it is used in SERVICE for the front shock upper retaining nut. It is not the nut originally used for 1963 but it will SERVICE the 1963 application and is very similar to the original nut.

    GM #25628204------front shock upper retainer also used for front sway bar links. This part is SERVICE for the 1963 application but is not the part originally used. However, it is very similar to the original retainer.

    GM #3714369------lower front control arm bushing retainer. This part was originally used for 1963 applications.

      Joe,

      I am curious about the original nut at this location, I think the rod nut is tall and most replacement shock nuts are brass. Do you have any additional information on the original nut dimensions, anyone have a picture of the original part.

        1963 used an upper front shock nut that was unique to that year. It was GM #43469. If that part number is correct, it is an absolutely ancient part number and I have no information on it.

        For 1964-82 the nut used in PRODUCTION was GM #1365067. This nut was also available in SERVICE until September, 1975. It was replaced at that time by GM #3866766 which was a connecting rod nut. The latter was discontinued in October, 1994 and replaced by GM #225854, also primarily a connecting rod nut.

        The GM #1365067 was 3/8-24 X 5/16" thick

        The GM #225854 is 3/8-24 X 11/32" thick

        One feature which I believe is the case for both the above and which is definitely true for the 3866766 is that they are completely flat on both sides. I believe this feature was somehow deemed important for the shock nut and that's why a connecting rod nut was used for SERVICE after 1975.
