Thinking of having my '67 L71 fan clutch rebuilt by Pampered Corvettes. Car runs fine at about 180-210 deg with only one episode of slightly overheating to about 230 deg (with antifreeze pewking) over the past 8 months but clutch clearly does not operate according to specs (spins freely even when hot). I read one post on this forum that stated that rebuilt fan clutches should NOT be used on driven cars. My question is: What is the general opinion of others on this forum? Thanks!

Re: opinions on fan clutch rebuild
Ron,
I use an aftermarket clutch for driving. Driving about 65-70 mph temp stays under 180 degrees most of the time except when the outside temp is in the 90's. Small block with the original radiator and changed the coolant regular in my 65.- Top

Re: opinions on fan clutch rebuild
I had Dan Kirkconnell restore the one on my 65. It works perfectly, car runs cool at all times. I can't imagine why anyone would say not to use one on a driven car. It's as good as the day it was new.- Top

From his web site -
We'll clean both the inside and outside of the unit; Cad and Chromate all appropriate pieces; replace all seals and bearings, as well as the oil; crimp and stamp as originally done.- Top
