    1957 Corvette promo in Denver

Rich Mauser sent me this article from Chevrolet Dealer News from 1957. Hope you can read the text, as I had to shrink considerably to respect kilobyte limits on this site. Maybe I should crop the text and the photograph separately, or just screw it and go directly to Photobucket (see below)

Thanks, great picture and story. I wonder how the FI ones ran in the Mile High City, if the carbs had problems.....

Wayne I have very nice clear 8X10's of this event. The pictures were given to me by the Ed Teskey family. We had figured out that it is Denver but we did not know the story.
Thanks for filling in the blanks.

I wonder what kind of train cars were used to transport the Corvettes. Corvettes were not shipped by rail as normal practice until 1959.

Don't know what kind of cars transported these Corvettes. Maybe they did'nt??? When I had a summer job in 60's I worked for a corrugated box company, Tri Wall, and as a special project was assigned to prototype large cardboard boxes to cover Cadillacs. Two Cadillacs were driven into a box car through large double doors and then covered with a large box. We also put them on RR open double deck car haulers and covered them. The cost proved to be prohibitive so GM dropped the idea. The idea of covering them on the RR car haulers, not box cars, came about because vandals shot the passing cars and threw rocks at them causing damage. Two Corvettes could have easily fit in a box car.

Somewhere in my archives I have the the original documents for the idea and the implemetation of shipping Corvettes by rail. As I recall it started in 59 with Corvettes.

I wonder how many of the people who drove those cars around the city are still around?
