    67 sombrero removal

Trying to understand the bottom of the Sombrero. The bottom has the tabs that bend over the raised steel lip; is this steel lip part of the cross member or is it part of the Sombrero. The reason I ask is because this steel lip that the tabs get bent over is welded in two spots like it is welded to the cross member? This is identical on the left and right side and they are original and don't believe they have been tampered with. Why the weld spots? If the steel lip is part of the Sombrero then I assume the welds need to be broken in order to press the Sombrero out. See pic. Dave

Dave...Also had spot welds on 67 I did several years ago. Had to grind welds off,use lots of penetrating oil and large pry bar to pop sombrero free.

I just replaced the bushings on mine and the lip is part of the crossmember. Mine also had the spot welds as you described, so I assume that was how it came from the factory.

Dave, The steel lip with the spot welds is part of the crossmember, don't grind the spot welds. Here's a pic of my 67's crossmember after removal.

Correct! Photo below is my crossmember, after removing the bushings, showing the cylindrical wall surface - don't grind the lip or grind off the mig spots on the lip!
