    C-1 Hardtop Rear Window

    Hi--

I am trying to repair a 1961/1962 hardtop that I recently purchased, and that was incomplete and in poor condition. Today, I just obtained (bought) a new rear window that was purportedly manufactured by O.E.M Glass Incorporated of Bloomington, Illinois. Like any reproduction part, some are better than others. I have heard horror stories about some reproduction rear windows not being molded correctly, and consequently, not fitting properly. Questions: 1). Has anyone had experience installing this particular company's C-1 "Plexi Backglass" rear window; and if so, were there any problems? 2). If there were any installation problems, what was necessary to accomplish a successful installation? 3). Am I better off just leaving the scratched and crazed rear window that is currently in the hardtop in place, and jettisoning the "new" rear window?

Thank you in advance for your response(s).

      Rob -

Nope, when I restored my '57, I sent my hardtop to Glassworks.

        Bob,
It will take hours of work but you can restore the plastic window less deep scratches to look good. I did the hardtop on my white 67 and only got a point deduct at Altoona Regional for two deep scratches. Use the same process as buffing out paint. The repro window markings are never exact.

John and Gene-- Thank you very much for the responses! John-- That was undoubtedly a good move sending your top to "Glassworks". Gene-- I will try to buff out the plexiglass as you recommended. Thanks again to the both of you for your responses. Rob
