What screw for 1967 door panel???

The 1967 Roadster takes one screw at the top outside a couple inches down from the radii, it has a captured washer and is larger than the other interior screws. Can any one out there tell me what to ask for or where to find one or the size??? The after market guys aren't much help.

    thanks,

      George,
It is a small trim washer and the screw is a jackson head (#8 screw with a #6 oval head).

Hopefully without opening up a whole can of whoopass, but this screw is for roadsters only and not coupes? Hopin', hopin'.....

My understanding from previous discussions is that that screw was not always used. My May 1967 convertible had no screw hole ther in either original door panel or door.

Man, go figure. If that's the case, my coupe is absent the screw in either door and the panels fit just fine. Thanks for the responses gang. I think. Just how the guy on the line felt that day I guess.

                  Tom -

It was a St. Louis local deviation (never added to the Assembly Manual), apparently only used if the door trim panel fit looked like it needed it.

Re: What screw for 1967 door panel???

All well and good, my 67's original door panels (AO Smith body, early May build date) never had the screws.

So what does the latest Judging Guide say about said screws? I don't recall if there was ever anything about them in my 15 year old guide.

Re: What screw for 1967 door panel???

                        Don,

Not sure what the new guide says, but in my experience in looking at 67 convertibles, the door panel screws do vary.
The 67 AIM has a somewhat elaborate setup without the screw in that location. Therefore there is callout for the screw.

On my AO Smith 67 (June 29) with its original panels, I had the screw with the beveled washer on the drivers side, and a trim screw (like the radio side panel screws) on the passenger side.
Although I've monkeyed with the drivers side panel and have had it off, the passenger side panel has never been off the car.

At events, I always look for this screw on other 67 convertibles. The screw does vary from the beveled washer type to the trim screw. I guess they used whether screw that was in reach at the factory.
I hope the new 67 Judging Guide recognizes this variance.

Take a look at this thread from the archives:

In it you will see pictures of the two types of screws used at the rear of the 67 convertible door panel.
I admit that the one with the beveled washer is most prevalent. But I have seen a lot of 67's with the trim screw.

I didnt answer in the other thread , but yes that is the alternate screw. How it relates to coupes, convertibles, AOS, St. Louis, I dont know.
