I have a 1963 manual brake master cylinder with the proper markings. It has a date code of L302. Since I know that there are 63 master cylinders with M representing the month, I am assuming that L302 is November 30, 1962. I am also assuming that the letter I was not used to represent the month of September is this situation. Does that sound correct?

Re: 1963 brake master cylinder date code
Ed, With letters as date codes this is how it works - If you have a letter (M) the I was not used. and If you had a letter (L) the I was used. This was posted before by a regular here. I believe that the M was not used on Master Cylinders.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Re: 1963 brake master cylinder date code
A 63 owner posted on CF that he has an original February 63 build car with a master cylinder dated M283 (December 28, 63). Do we know for sure what the date code possibilities are for 63 master cylinders. I was thinking that the letter I would not be used to represent the month because it would be confused with the digit 1 in the date code. Inquiring minds...- Top

Ed, I could be wrong on the letter M, as I am not 100% sure .But the wording above is correct for letter dates.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top
