    Paint Layers

I have posted several pictures of my car ready for stripping. I started stripping using a razor blade and would like to know if anyone can tell me by the pictures what layers are on the car, i.e., primer, gelcoat, etc. The car was originally white but someone re-painted it red back in the 80's, I'm trying to find out it the dark gray is primer or gelcoat or something else?

Jim I am not commenting on what you have requested. I did not know what the St. Louis factory did specifically in painting my C3's. They did a lot of painting at the factory I don't have the document in front of me, but I think they used two primer coats and then a sealer coat before spraying the color coats. It was an interesting read on their paint application, did not know their application took that many steps.

Jim they used two colors of primer , the top color was also used as a guide coat . no sealer was used in St. Louis .Wipe the grey with lacquer thinner . if its primer it will come off ,if its gel coat it will not .
