When correctly in stalled backwards as Nolands book indicates and with tension the butterfly valve, the flat spot on the valve should be almost parallel to the ground when cold, and stay tht way, correct? . Thanks again folks

Re: 54 exhaust heat controll spring
I position them - so the spring always holds the flap open.....
No real reason to install the other way - unless to plan on doing cold weather driving......1954 Corvette #3803 - Top Flight 2012, Bloomington Gold 2012,

Re: 54 exhaust heat controll spring
When I disassembled my exhaust/intake manifold assembly I found that there was one of the block off plates between the two manifolds which (as I understand) was installed by the factory on later models which prevented the warming of the intake. Is this correct and if so then is the functioning of heat riser assembly a mute point? As with most, my assembly was a frozen mess which I eventually gave up on attemps to free it up - was advised not to worry about it. Ha - If I was off base I want to pull it apart now before I install the body....you know the hindsight thing!!! Thanks.

Re: 54 exhaust heat controll spring
yep the block off plate should be there......
Are you going for judging?
If no dont worry about it
If yes I would make it functional and install the spring to keep the flap open....1954 Corvette #3803 - Top Flight 2012, Bloomington Gold 2012,
