Re: L 89 GM Rod and Main Bearings?
The original big block bearings were Moraine 400. However, they were not tri-metal. They were premium aluminum.
Current GM bearings are also premium aluminum. However, they are manufactured by Federal Mogul. If one purchases the current GM bearings, they will be F-M in a GM box. You can get the same bearings in F-M packaging if you get their "AP" series bearings (much harder to find). From F-M,, they are available in sets; from GM only individual bearings.
By the way, I am definitely NOT a guy that believe that all OEM parts are the same as aftermarket if they're manufactured by the same company. However, in the case of these bearings, I believe they are the same.
By the way, I'm also a big believer in using premium aluminum rod and main bearings for street big blocks and small blocks, too.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
