    Bolt head markings

Is there a difinitive source which tells me what head marking I should be using when putting my fram back together.
Someone has replaced a lot of the hardware and I would like to go back to original.

Are there areas where generic hardware was used. In some parts catalogs they will say for example anchor headmark 1/4-20 1"

My JG does not provide the information, and I do not know if or how to cross reference my AIM to parts.

    Thanks

    Todd

      Re: Bolt head markings

Let me narrow my question down a little bit.

I was putting my frame back together the other day; specifically the front Extension Assembly and Brace Assembly (as listed in the 74 AIM) There are 4 bolts which hold the two assemblies to the frame. Two bolts on each side are screwed into a weld nut, and the other two are nut and bolt.
When removing them I noticed that there were several bolts which were generic as well as several washers.
I contacted Paragon and gave them the part numbers from my AIM, which are 9419099 the bolt, and 1362249 which is the washer. They were researched and I received my parts in the mail; however, the bolts had different head markings than the ones which I pulled from the car, as for the washers they were of the same make except the finish was different.
I am not saying that either part was wrong, for all I know the parts and finish of the parts which were on the car may be wrong.
I do not know which is correct, do I order more of the parts from Paragon like the ones they sent or do I send them back and try to find what I have. If I put one or the other on the car and have it judged, I could be told whatever my decision was is wrong. I hate re-work, I would like to do it right the first time.

Enclosed are a few pictures of what was on the car and associated washer, as well as what was sent to me and its associated washer.
Can someone at least tell me which if either is correct?

      Thanks Todd

I cannot tell you about head marks, since I gave up chassis judging way long ago -- but I will add one source of potential solace:

Often we see different head marks on one side of the car from the other. Often two workers attached parts and used fasteners taken from bins on each side of the assembly line. It is not uncommon to have different head marks in each side of the part. However, in general I would expect the finish of the parts to be the same on each side.

"A" "WB" and "M" are what I've seen for these, but I deal with 68's much more than the 70's Bolts were intermixed on the line from what I understand, it's not uncommon to have different head markings for bolts on the same car in for the same mount that appear to be original.
