    62 Oil Cap

Early 62 FI cars, etc used a cad plated oil cap. Later ones used a chrome one.
    I don't have a 62 Judging manual.
About when did the change from cad plated to chromed plated oil cap occur? Thanks, John

My JG does not delineate early vs late by VIN number or build date....just mentions early vs. late..cad vs flash chrome

The JG is vague on this and other change over points. I think the Rev. Mike would have the best information as far as an approximate changeover date. Rich

        Re: 62 Oil Cap

Our 62 is an April build date and we went with a repro chrome cap.

At Texas regional we lost 2 points for originality with the following judge comments.

"Tube s/b argent silver, cap lip s/b thinner, missing draw marks."

          Rich,
Thanks for the compliment. I guess now I have to come through with the pressure on!
My experience is that with both the vented and nonvented (340 and 360HP cap) that the changeover started somewhere in the 2300 VIN range, and by the 2900 range was accomplished. There could always be exceptions, but that's what I've seen over the years.

Rev Mike and others. Thanks for replying. Let me ask the question again in better wording.
For the hi-HP cars with the non vented caps. The Caps that read AC-Oil.
I understand the "early" oil caps were cadmium plated. Then later they were chrome plated.
My question then is when did this changover from cad to chrome occur.
I have a 62 FI unit that is serial #1427. I am guessing this is the cad plated oil cap. My buddy has an FI unit around 1525. He's the second owner of the car and it has a chrome cap.
What do you think? Put a cad plated cap on the #1427?

OOPS. I see that Rev Mike did in fact answer the question. Much appreciated I am sure. That's good info.

            Thanks again , John
