    1965 Corvette 4 speed

When up shifting or down shifting the back end of the car gets 'loose". Tires have correct pressures. Could it be something has come loose with one of the half shafts?

Check the mountings on the nose of the differential.

Missing trailing arm shims or bad bushings.

Half shaft inspection is easy to do, are you unable to check yours?

              Jim,
Upon inspection the shafts are tight with nothing obviously loose. Thanks for the information

+1 on the trailing arm shims/bushings. Could also be the strut rod bushings gone wild.

I had a similar problem on my 67. The rear of the car would give a little "wiggle" when shifting. After replacing everything in the rear suspension (frame off) it still did it. John Hinckley suggested that I drive some tight figure 8's in a parking lot to "free up" the positraction clutches. Problem solved. The bottom line was "lack of use" of the car. You might have the same problem.

Owen as mentioned by another poster (Stephen L. ) using tight figure 8's to solve his problem, another maintenance area is changing your 65's rear end lubricant and installing the required supplement with the change available from GM for positraction rear ends. Your 65 may not have positraction, this was an option in 65-69 and earlier Corvettes. GM's rear end lubricant part #1052271 and GM's limited slip differential lubrication additive is #1052358.

                      Stephen,
I have just climbed out from under and could not see anything obviously loose or missing. However, this vette does not have positraction, but, it does sit for long periods of time. Thanks for the suggestion
