I am looking for a pair of rear shocks for my 1958 Corvette. I have found a pair of replacement shocks #3197611 but they appear to be longer than the orginal #5520279. Does anyone know what these are for, or where I can purchase the correct shocks.

Re: 1958 Corvette Rear Shocks
This is a rare part. I just ordered Monroe 5818s and plan on taking any point deductions. There's a member who will restamp originals (Dan Patch) but he wants $800.00 per pair and the points per dollar just don't make sense to me. Paragon and Corvette Central sell Delcos but they aren't correct either.Keith MacRae

Re: 1958 Corvette Rear Shocks
I just removed a set of 3197611 off of my early 59 as I'm restoring the car. I did not find any issues with installing these a few years ago. Check your upper cross member to make sure the mounting bracket isn't welded to the underside of the crossmember. This would indicate a heavy duty suspension application and this may be your problem. The HD mounting bracket is about an inch lower that the standard shock mounting.- Top
