Two Questions - Glove Box (Dash Tray) Light

    1. I've attached a pic which I downloaded from this forum which shows three original glove box light switches. I think there is some difference between the three but they are substantially the same. My question it the raised area in the metal face plate around the black push plunger. Is that always there on an originall peice for a Nov 63 built 64 car?

    2. My car has a #20 B/OR wire running to the switch but I see posts which suggest it should be orange. Looking at the the AIM wiring it changes color from page 220 (Mid America copy of AIM) which shows a B/OR wire in the 4th wire down from the top and picks up on page 221 in the same position as orange going to the glove box light. This issue is true for several other light wires transitioning from page to page, for example the RH courtesy light which on my car is also B/OR. I suspect the AIM is wrong but would like some feedback on this.

    Thank You

On your AIM check first electrical diagram, UPC 12 sheet D1, in the revision record does your top line date say 7-14-65???
And UPC 12 sheet D3, same area date of 7-14-65??? Mine came from NCRS and I called them about the error and assume NCRS corrected theirs/ours. The Repo Houses may not have corrected. Long way of saying the electrical diagrams are wrong!

The wire to glove box light is B/OR, wires to RH court lamp is B/W & B/OR, ie those on UPC12 sheet D2.00 are correct and a 64 diagram.

I checked and my AIM is as you suggest. I think what you are saying is that the July 65 sheets do not belong in a 64 AIM and I agree. My Shop Manual does show the B/OR. Thanks Alan.

I posted the original picture. Those switches are for the 63 model year, maybe 64. I think by 65 they were changed to a new configuration. The wire to the switch is orange and it is always hot unless you disconnect the battery.

I put a quick disconnect on that wire, female side on the hot side and male side on the glove box side. That way when I pull the glove box I do not end with a hot wire that will short out. It also avoids pulling the switch apart.

You can't see the quick disconnect and besides it's a safety precaution.
