3810 Carb fuel inlet nut finish

I just removed a service replacement 3810 carb from my 67 when I noticed that the fuel inlet nut is finished in a black finish. I purchased a restored correct dated 3810 and the fuel inlet nut is finished in a gold alodine. What is the correct color for this fuel inlet nut ?

My exposure indicates a zinc plating. Now some exhibit a chromate also. The chromate has ranged from a clear (silver coloration) to a yellow. Chromate is a dye type finish that is applicable to a fresh zinc plating and color will vary to the concentration and time in solution.

Most restorations (appearing gold) on Holleys in general are way way over restored as far as plating and chromate treatment.

Every original 3810 and 3367 I've seen (and the 4053 used on '68-'69 Z/28's) have the black fuel inlet fittings; I've only seen dichromate fittings in non-Holley aftermarket replacement "kits" that include the fitting, bronze filter, spring, and gasket.

Thank you everyone I will re-install the black fuel inlet fitting on my restored carb.
