    1965 birdcage question

I removed the piece of rubber weather guttering at the base of the windshield post above the hinge pillar. Here is the right or passenger side:

The small round hole is for the weather gutter screw. I am not sure of the other hole. Is is an elongated screw hole for the stainless trim?

Here is the left or driver side:

I poke a screw driver around in the rusted area, and the hole became a little larger. The windshield frame appears to be sturdy. What is the repair for this area?

    Thanks in advance

    Stephen,
The rotted metal needs to be cut out and replaced with new clean metal. You will need some expertise with tig welding and die grinder.

A bit of matting and rosin is necessary followed up with some body filler to make repair transparent.

I found the same conditions when I stripped my 65 coupe. To facilitate the repair required removal of the front clip and pillar cover. Make sure you remove all the rusted metal and recoat with rust converter and zinc chromate. Long and difficult process to repair the area. Good luck.

I had to replace the whole piece on my 63 coupe. Since I had a bit of the car apart already, I went for new drip rails too. They just kinda went along with the whole deal.
