I've seen some 427 blocks with the "Pass" cast in the back top edge of the block and some don't seem to have this? Some have a large "T" and some not, is there any significance to some having this and some not? (were some specific to Corvette while other blocks specific to Trucks or other cars for example?) A "T", large or small and anywhere located on the block, indicates a block cast at the Tonawanda, NY foundry. All big blocks cast prior to 1984 were cast at Tonawanda. After 1984 they were cast at Defiance, OH and usually have no foundry identification mark. A "T" does not represent "truck".
I believe that "Pass" refers to a block with the standard 9.8" deck height. These were the only type used in passenger cars (including Corvette) and were also used in some trucks, including all pick-up trucks with big blocks.
A 10.2" deck height block was used in many larger trucks, especially those with 427 cid engines. These may have "Truck" cast on them. I'm not sure, though, since I've never really paid any attention to these.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
