    Paul,

Check out this site to see where ethanol free gas is available:

Pure-gas.org is the definitive web site listing stations that sell pure gasoline in the U.S. and Canada.

I have done that Joe, at the suggestion of you and some others. The closest listed station is 57 miles from my home. I have seen a number of posts that state there was no alcohol free gasoline when the people arrived, or that the location was a marina that would not let them fuel their cars. I don't know if that site is not updated regularly or stations are entered falsely. If you have any distance to travel to get there, it would be wise to do some independent checking before traveling. My experience with it has been questionable so far, but I do have their app on my mobile phone and will use it in my travels this summer.

Interesting site--I would add to Terry comments, that not one of the Texas stations is in Dallas/Fort Worth (my area) or other the major urban centers from North Central Texas all the way to Houston--looks like West Texas and/or the boonies

I believe most in Illinois are marinas and in farm country, judging by their location. I am not sure why farmers love it (other than the same reasons we do), but boats with fiberglass fuel tanks don't like alcohol. The big tank guys have been down that road on this site repeatedly.

Should probably change the thread title to "another ethanol discussion"

            no?

Example: for years there were two Chevron stations a traffic light apart near where I live and one had no disclosure label on their pumps and the other did. Low and behold, one day years ago the non-disclosed pumps got the labels and have had them ever since. I seriously doubt (when relevant) those two stations weren't getting the same fuel from the same tankers.

I'm not from Missouri, but I'm a skeptic given nearly every gas pump discloses ethanol content. I just don't believe an outlier or two that don't have the labels are magically getting and selling no alcohol gas (and for several years now, it always seems to be in some out of the way location that has old pumps without ethanol content disclsoure labels). Fortunately, I've not seen an issues (or read of credible reports) of problems with 10% or less ethanol in gas, other than percolating in the carbs during heat soak and black soot on tail pipes (which I get with my 911 and hate but have gotten used to cleaning off the tale pipes at every wash).
Paul, whether or not it has ethanol in it or it's labelled has to do with several different regulations. The original requirement for ethanol was as an oxydizer for fuels used in areas with poor air quality. This was mandated by the EPA. When MTBE was banned, then ethanol was pretty much the only option left. It was only sold during "ozone season" and was restricted to those areas with poor air quality. However, some States chose to meet their air quality maintanance standards by requiring ethanol everywhere in the State. If the area where that station is became non-attainment, or if the State changed it's policy for ethanol sales, the station would be required to change to ethanol fuels.

The other "regulation" is the President's mandate for only ethanol fuels to be sold in order to reduce dependence on foreign oil.

As far as labelling goes, that's up to the EPA and the disclosure laws in your state. I agree that some station owners are slow to comply with new rules.

As Terry implied, a station can order a tanker of non-ethanol fuel from the same jobber that supplies the other station by asking for unblended fuel.
