stamp pad question

It was brought to my attention that the two eights in the vin are not the same, one is upside down. has anyone that has a vin close to mine have a similar upside eight? I assume my pad is original and has not been tampered with.

Something looks hinky to me! There "appears" to be some numbers just to the left of the seven - something like F02 is what I think I am seeing!?

no expert here but I can see the date code stamped lightly to the right of the predominate stamp. The serial number are not lined up

My history of good engine pads in this serial number range do not have leaning "1" and also do not have the "8" upside down in that position. Broach marks look fabricated.

I have a pic of 118557 with the same misaligned 1's and upside down 8, heads off and broach complete. Sadly, I'm not able to upload right now. Maybe a Firefox issue ...

Personally broach marks (sic!) look like Stevie Wonder at work with sand paper!

Joel, It's interesting that in your picture the engine assembly looks to be a partial double stamp, as does the original posters picture (at least a partial double stamp on the 8). Just an interesting observation...hmmm....Hope all is good with you...ARA

Hi Ara, yes--they both do appear to have been double tapped or bounced, which is fairly common. Attached is a closer view of the assembly stamping. This is not my car nor my engine. I believe I pulled this pic off ebay a few years ago as an orphan block, but I'm not sure ... either way the broach in this pic shows quite nicely.

Joel, I have talked with a Bloomington Gold judge that has informed me that known original vin stamps in the

18,000 range have had upside down '' 8"
that's assuring , thanks for your photo, Craig
