'67 COPO 427 at Bloomington Tank Sticker

    Hi all,

I get Mecum e's regularly and I clicked on the one of a '67 437/390 with COPO color combo and tank sticker. I am no expert on tank stickers, but the Date Received of 12-28-67 looks like it is in the '68 model year, and the Exp. Date of Prod. of 01-13-66 looks to be in the '66 model year.

I know everything must be okay since there is an NCRS license plate on the front. Otherwise, I'd say either someone is VERY sloppy on a fake sticker or it is so blatant that it must be real, but what do you think?

I believe the only way to find out if it is real is use the NCRS Document Authentication Service.

    "Document Validation Service
NCRS will compare any of your GM documents to the GM records contained in the Shipping Report and if verification can be achieved, will establish the authenticity of your factory documents. Unfortunately, the shipping report does not contain the vehicle options. A letter containing the information you request will be mailed to your NCRS address on record. The cost for this service will be $40.00 USD. Pay by Credit Card or PayPal."

OMG! I can't believe anyone would attempt such a thing with the tank sticker, such an obvious fake, who would be so bold? You would think even Mecum would know better. I guess they could always claim it was a "factory typo", but an extraordinary claim would require extraordinary proof. You should also check the Top Flight Award claim for 2004, and the engine pad and trim tag as well, this calls everything into suspicion.

01-13-66 could be 01-13-68, but that would be no help on a '67. How does Mecum explain things?

The years on the two dates were flipped. 12/28/67 should have been 12/28/66 and 01/13/66 should have been 01/13/67. Obvious typo, right? Many of us remember typing pools, unfortunately.

Even if the Date Received and the Expected Production Date were correct, was an order expected to be turned around that quickly, especially at that time of year?

The car has been listed in Driveline in 1999, later at proteam. I'd like to see the trim tag.

Right, that fits. I do wonder what the owner and Mecum's explanation of the tank sticker with incorrect dates could be. I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot barge pole, how would you like to be the guy who gets the monkey on their back to explain to the next buyer......

I guess I'd rather have that tank sticker than this window sticker.

It's not unusual to see the production date as '66 instead of '67 if the date received is in 1966. Here's the tank sticker on the car I drove to the Judging Retreat in February. I've never seen both years incorrect like this one. 7127 tank sticker.jpg

I think it's a COPO color that is part of the 427hp engine package.
