    Major Oops!!!

    From Corvette Blogger on Facebook

Sometimes getting your Corvette to a car show is more drama than what it's worth. Take the case of Corvette collector Ed Foss whose auto transporter carrying four of his rare Corvettes crashed into a low bridge on the way to Bloomington Gold.

Sometimes just getting to a car show can be more difficult than winning. Take, for example, this case of a truck carrying four Corvettes to the Bloomington Gold show in Champaign, Illinois. The truck got stuck in a viaduct on Springfield Avenue in Champaign, forcing the road to be closed for several hours on Monday. […]

That took me a while to figure out...
I suspect that he may unfortunately get some work out of this deal.

How many weeks will it be before they show up as untouched original Bowtie candidates?

Ed, Sometimes the Blogs are just not fair. Unfortunately over my years in the transport business, I had to go out and clean up those messes. The important news is that you are OK. Good Luck, I hope that your cars are fine.

I recently heard that in Illinois the DOT is slow to change the posted bridge height numbers after paving a road. This is the third time that I've seen this in Illinois in the past 4 months.

Paul, The standard height limit for a transport trailer is 13 feet 6 inches.

                        Re: Major Oops!!!

The clearance shown does not take into consideration the length of the truck trailer. If you are trying to pass a stick under the edge of the trestle to the pavement you'll have no trouble, but a trailer on an incline is a different matter. It's a geometric thing - angle of the blah blah blah...

From personal experience, I am aware of how low and out of date the trestle underpasses are in Champaign, and the railroad in question is in no condition to fix them - even with the help of the bankrupt State of Illinois. They don't drain very well during a little rain storm either. That too I learned from personal experience after darn near drowning my new Caprice back in 87.

Maybe the iDOT personnel are at a training seminar in Vegas learning how to line dance.

Sad to see any Corvette Damaged, especially these low milage original pieces of history.

Do you think "low bridge" cautions are on the first page of the truck driver training manuals ?

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
                            I hope you dance
