Re: 1957 wiring diagram
There's no pink wire on the '57 ammeter. The ammeter teminal closest to the driver's side door has the two black wires (from the battery and to the ignition switch) and the terminal closest to the passenger side door has two red wires - one to the lighter, and the other to the light switch. The two pink wires that feed the temp gauge and gas gauge come from the ignition switch (actually one wire from the switch to the gas gauge, with a pigtail to the temp gauge). See your Assembly Manual, UPC 12, sheet 12.00 for the pink wire to the gauges from the ignition switch, but the ammeter wires are shown backwards.- Top

DSC00855A.jpgI find it very hard to disagree with any of John's post but I must. I think he is looking at the wiring diagram which is not correct. Many previous post have stated this error in most wiring diagrams. I have attached a picture showing the proper connections necessary for proper operation of the battery gauge.- Top

You're absolutely right - both the wiring diagram and the Assembly Manual illustration are backwards, just like they are from '58-'61. The black power feed from the battery goes on the driver's side terminal, and the red load wire (s) go on the passenger side terminal. I'll edit my previous post.- Top
