    65 rear shock removal help

Removing the F40 rear shocks off the 65 and ran into a problem on the drivers side. The top bolt is rusted to the sleeve inside the rubber. The bolt just spin but does not come out. The nut is off. I have sprayed some penetrating fluid and will try again tomorrow. Any one ever have the same problem? Know of a fix? Both shocks seem to be functioning properly. Just wanted to take them off and clean them up.

you should have a nut and lockwasher on the other side - need to back it up to remove

If it ain't broke, don't "fix"(or risk screwing something up)

Nut is removed. Lock washer is actually on the bolt head side. Not logical I know. I can only figure it has been removed in the past. i have thought about just bolting it back up and cleaning the shock as it hangs there. Cleaned up the passenger side pretty well and found two things. There is some (not a lot) of body undercoating on it and there is grey paint on the upper rubber mount. Can only assume that they paint the grey with the rubber in. Date on the passenger F40 shock is 11 E 64. i believe that is 5th week of November 1964 per the new revision in the judging manual. Will post a pic later.

          John -

May not seem logical, but it's correct; that's the only attachment on the car where the lock washer is under a bolt head instead of the nut (due to lack of clearance between the inboard side of the upper mounting bracket and the underbody for both a nut and lock washer).

            John,
Thanks for clarifying. I believe now, that the shocks have never been removed. As a side note, lock washer on passenger side broke in half when I loosen up the bolt.
I am having problems posting pictures again. Will try later. Does this happen to anyone else? I have resized them, retaken them etc. Sometimes the only thing that works is to come back later on!
