The rebuilt pg transmission in my 65 is leaking. It is a fresh rebuild with "0" miles. I have not put the body back on the frame yet so it is ez to work on. Feeling around for the leak source "I think" the leak is coming from around where the speedometer cable screws on. Is there a gasket or O - ring I can replace? Do I have to be careful of the nylon gear falling deeper into the transmission? What course of repair should I take? Thanks in advance. Jim

Re: 1965 PG Transmission Leak
Jimmy,
There is an "O" ring seal on the speedo plug. One bolt to loosen then turn the flange 90* and remove the plug. You should not have to worry about the plastic gear falling into the tranny. Back to the garage. Bill- Top

Re: 1965 PG Transmission Leak
Along with the o-ring around the outside of the speedo "bullet", there is also a seal on the inside that seals the gear itself. If fluid is running from where the cable screws on, the inside seal is leaking. An o-ring leak will normally leak down on the tailhousing, not down to the cable, but it can certainly seep down that direction. I'd suggest replacing both the o-ring and the inner seal, or replace the bullet with a new one.Joel Adams
