Another 68 Hood Latch Finish Ques?

What type of finish is most accepted as correct for the 68 hood latches, male and female? (For reference my latch and cable configuration has female latches connected with black nylon jacketed cable / brass cylinders connect cable to latches, tulip probe on male)

The TIM&JG denotes "Gray phosphate". Searching past threads there are some opinions as to that gray phosphate finish being a type of Parkerized finish, manganese phosphate, zinc phosphate, dark gray or near black in color.

Is there a general consensus as to what finish is appropriate? What do most people do for finish? I am at the stage where the parts are prepared and ready to be plated / finished.

    Best,
    Pat

I would definitely describe the hood latches, both sides upper and lower, as being "gray phosphate" which is the same as "zinc phosphate". I'm sure the shade of gray varied somewhat, though.

I've seen medium gray to dark gray, almost black. It seems to vary signficantly by car.
I don't recall seeing light gray on original cars, but that may just be my memory filter.

Thanks Joe and Patrick - I will get these finished using zinc phosphate and see how they turn out. For comparison, is the pulley for the A.I.R. pump roughly the same finish- give or take a shade?

Yes, I'd say it's about the same.

The L69-76 upper latch plates are usually much darker than the 68-E69.
