owners manual for 69 corvette 427 shows 6 qts with a filter. I know the oil pan is correct, but gauge shows half quart high with 5 and 1/2 quarts. Should I put in the 6 qts anyway? I am using the PF25 filter

Re: 69 oil capacity
The oil capacity with filter change for all Corvette big block applications is 6 quarts. Are you sure you have a correct dipstick and tube? Are you sure the car has a correct Corvette oil pan?In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 69 oil capacity
A PF 25 filter will not hold an entire quart of oil. A PF 35 will. I believe the PF 25 holds about 1/2 to 2/3 quart of oil, but I have never attempted to measure it accurately.
Here is a lot more info ont he subject, byut even this thread is not all encompasing:

Paul-----
A PF-25 does not have a 1 quart capacity; it's about 2/3 of a quart. However, the amount it is short of a quart would not explain the amount of difference you reported( i.e. "half a quart high with 5-1/2 quarts").
What color is the plastic "button" on the end of your dipstick finger loop?In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

There's at least one error reported in the thread you linked. The PF-35 is no longer available from GM and has not been for quite a few years. It was replaced by the PF-1218 which is somewhat shorter than a PF-35. The PF-35L remains available from GM, though. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
