I think my generator is not putting out enough as the battery does not seem to be charging so I tested it on the car. I'm looking for feedback on my findings. I disconnected the field and armature wires to test it. I started the car with a meter on the generator. At idle about 1-2 volts. At 2500rpm approx 3-4 volts. At 4500rpm it came up to 5.7 volts max. Could not get it higher than that. Shouldn't the generator put out more than 6 volts in order to engage the regulator and charge the battery? Any help is much appreciated.

Re: 54 Corvette 6volt charging issue
connect everything up....
under load - lights on, etc.... high idle - should put out 7.3v
most 12v systems charge at 14.4 - so around 1/2 that for 6 volt.....1954 Corvette #3803 - Top Flight 2012, Bloomington Gold 2012,
