How does the lower shied on the forward side fasten? Looks like it lines up with the hole on the coil plate but is about 3/8 inch above the hole. Is there supposed to be a stud or something there or does a bolt thread into it??? Thanks again!

Re: 54 lower ignition shield fastening
the lower shield attaches to the coil plate - there is a thread hole - held to that hold with a slotted pan head
the shield attaches in the back to the top hole in the block cover with a slotted pan head.1954 Corvette #3803 - Top Flight 2012, Bloomington Gold 2012,

Re: 54 lower ignition shield fastening
Chris,
I have the same problem Sept. 2016! To get the top shield on, I added spacers on top of the water tank mounting bracket so the nuts cleared the upper shield allowing the shield to fit on properly to both tabs.
Bottom shield rear hole lines up well. Front hole is a mile off that should screw onto coil plate (if it had a place to screw to) My plate shows a 1/4 inch pilot hole between the two coil mount threaded holes. The coil plate looks the same as any plate on E Bay or books pics.
Another issue is with the Distributor clearance cut out. NOTE: (I am using a reproduction shield made by Jack Kershlis Hadley, MA)
It appears now that the cut out is not deep enough to allow the shield to fit up to the front hole to secure it. Jack passed away in June, so I am on my own now to resolve the issue.
Question is, am I missing something or is something missing? (Correct 241 head, valve cover, 911 block - Vette # 3516)
Hope you can help me out!
Thanks in advance,

Re: 54 lower ignition shield fastening
Ray
Many folks have Jack repro shielding
They fit
The rear hole uses one of the flat pan heads - for the side cover - top rear hole
The front one uses a hole on the coil mount plate
If the plate is installed the front side of the side cover.
