Well I'm about half way through the replacement of a faulty heater core which dumped about 2 pints of coolant on the passenger side floor which of course got under the vinyl mat. I've read in other posts about it being necessary to pull the carpet and underlayment to shampoo it and wash the fiberglass floor before replacing the carpet/underlayment.
My carpet was replaced 20 yrs ago when I finished restoring the car, and at that time and for whatever reason (and reassurance from another NCRS member) I choose not to use underlayment and simply glued the carpet to the fiberglass floor with contact cement.
Can anyone recommend what I should do in regards to pulling up the passenger side floor carpet? In other words, this carpet is glued to the floor and pulling it up will most certainly destroy it, leaving a big mess that will need to be painstakingly scraped up. Is there an option and what product/type of cleaner should I use to shampoo the carpet and clean the floor?
