Does anyone have or ever had a NOS 3876784 dipstick tube sold over the counter that was painted black?
Enclosed are photos of my current collection of 3876784 dipstick tubes that I have collected over the past 33 years. I believe that the tube that is painted black (on the left side in the top photo) is NOS. I know that the other 4 tubes are used original. The tube painted black has glue remnants from a missing part number sticker and is not painted at the very top (the top 7/16" as shown in bottom photo). All of these tubes are original as they were purchased from salvage yards and swap meets long before the reproduction tubes made the scene.
My guess is that the NOS black tube was part of an oil pan package (oil pan, dipstick, and dipstick tube) as in years past I have had a few NOS oil pans that included the dipstick, dipstick upper tube, and instructions to use the dipstick & tube with the oil pan.
As far as I know all 66-67 factory installed upper dipstick tubes were a natural metal finish.
I would appreciate any comments.
Dave
