    64 Fuel Injection Distributor Cap

The correct cap is a D 310 short tower but I'm interested in differences. Say versus standard tower cap is it just a wire tower difference or is the internal dimension also different due to the FI distributor difference. For example, on a non radio car with no shielding, and therefore a little more clearance, could I use a D 308 or D309 ( and I don't know what the difference is in these) if one would fit?

Larry, D310 post going on right now. With no distributor shield you could use any DR or whatever cap. No good for judging though.
Go to NAPA and ask for a RR168. Black with copper cap. Very nice for driving.
Differences: D310 is a low tower cap. Height of the towers. Period.
D308 would fit just fine.Just higher towers. Inside of caps the same. I don't know anything about a D309.
The NAPA cap is typicallyY A lower towers cap. But not always as I found out. John

D-309 was brown with copper rather than aluminum terminals as I recall, used for GM racing applications and (I think) L-88. Otherwise same as D-308

        There's a D-310 new-in-box (white/orange w-black top, string-never pulled) on eBay. It's at $91 now, reserve not met.

So is there a risk that it might have the "R" ?

Hard to say Wayne, really depends on the date of manufacture. GM was having problems defending it's patents in the late '60's and that is when the "R" started being used (approx, don't nail me on the exact dates) BTW, the high volume application for the low-tower cap was Oldsmobile.

Clup - Interesting is that if the cap was a D308R it is identified on the box; but not so with the D310R caps in a pull string boxes. So, as Wayne indicated you cannot tell from the box because there is no R on theD310 boxes so you need to pull the string to find out. So, "let the buyer beware." Pete

I'll bet there are still several NOS 070 FI distributors floating around out there. It would be interesting to see if the caps on the last ones that were made by Delco have the R on the cap. Anyone have one?

Slightly off-topic, but here's one that was on eBay with the sideways "R" and a "BB" opposite.

                Big block, I assume .
