Any one studied PCV valves sufficiently to know when AC stopped putting the small paper rings on the valves?

Re: PCV valve ID tag trivia
Ron, Very good question that hasn't been resolved. Theory is the paper rings were used on service replacement PCV's.
But not all agree.
Then there is the discussion on the colors of the paper ring. Seems there were many variations on color combinations, etc.
Sorry for such a dumb answer. John- Top

Re: PCV valve ID tag trivia
John, not at all, fully aligned.
One thing we have to look at is that we now have 30 years of repro-itis contaminating the data along with fundamental manufacturing changes in how these valves were made changed from their initial design starting in late 50's to let say 1964. 65 CY saw definite configuration change
I know bad repro happened with 691, then 736, I probably wrote about 5 years ago,
These tags were not just a simple poster board paper, more on that later.
Even if a service part only, the evidence out there pushed the 'valve less paper tag' about two - three years earlier, and there were some very creative tags out there too, take this one for example. To the naked eye it looks like a minor perforation of the label, but look closer!ac 584 4 tricky.jpg This is a 1962 dated part btw.- Top
