Working on my buddys 69, for what we thought was a P/S whine-buzz noise, found it to be the Voltage Regulator buzzing, If we disconnect the battery when running it stops untill the car is started again. What is the cause of the buzzing? just a bad regulator or could it be an Alt, or wiring, the charging system is working 31 amps loaded 14.6 volts to the battery while idling. What do you guys think?

Re: Buzzing Noise
Anthony your buddys 1969 should have an alternator that has a internal voltage regulator. 1968 was the last year of Corvettes that had a external voltage regulator mounted on the fender well in front of the master cylinder. I believe that the "buzzing noise" you mentioned is coming from the relay mounted on the fender well that was made to buz. This relay does this function as a ignition key warning buzzer to warn you if you have left the key in the ignition's anti-theft lock when the driver's door is opened.
The relay has one wire that can be disconnected that disables the relay buzzer function.- Top
