I can not find at PPG an offset color for the 1958 charcoal. Does another company offer this color? If so what is the paint code number. Save the wave,Wade

BC/CC or lacquer?
You might check with Tim Mickey, as he restored one a few years ago.
The odds of finding an exact match by using an offset are close to zero anyway. You really need to have an original sample and run test panels.Vice-Chairman (West), Michigan Chapter NCRS

Kevin,
Thanks for the response to my question on color codes for charcoal. Unfortunately, the local paint stores have the codes but their books do not go back far enough to tell them how to mix it. Save the wave, Wade- Top

Patrick, Unfortunately, the car has been painted every color including purple. So no original samples. Will try an original piece of the upholstery. Save the wave, Wade- Top

Your situation is exactly where this board could, if someone had an original paint charcoal 1958, could help you, but remember the number of people regularly here is in the hundreds. I also suggest you contact John "The Real Deal" Ballard through the members section of this board. John has worked in the paint industry for several decades, and may be able to help -- or at least put you in touch with someone who has an original paint car. The 1958 National Team Leader (listed under contacts on that page) might also be able to put you in touch with someone with an original paint car. Team Leaders tend to remember or catalog such vehicles. Neither of those people frequents this board, so to communicate with them you will have to become proactive.Terry- Top

I have matched the color for a person in Indiana, using todays lacquer. He has painted a couple of 58's with the formula.
If you call me, I can give you the formula.
