1996 Wheel Locking lug nut kit - OEM?

Pat, I hate to deviate from the topic, but I just came across a wheel locking lug nut bag for a 1996 that I have nver seen, nor is it identified in the JM. I'm attaching a picture of it. I just want your thoughts on this. Is there a link we can transfer this discussion to?

Erv and company, please just bare with me for a second.

Re: Who makes OEM C4 keys with knockouts?

Ed, I have never seen that collection of items for a 1995 wheel locking kit, but that does not mean that it is not correct.

Did it come from an original owner of the 1996? That is usually the best source. I have seen individuals selling/obtaining all kinds of replacement parts for the wheel locking kit. On ebay, there are a lot of claims as the part being original Corvette equipment and it is not true.

Let me know what was the source of this kit.

Pat, it's not an Ebay item. The part is from a NCRS member and I sent him a message seeking verification. His car was a 1996 LT4.

Here is some history for this car. Was leased new from Jack Cauley Chevrolet, Bloomfield Hills, Mich. Two year lease from 11/6/95 until 11/6/97 (23923 miles). Sold at Auction -11/18/97. 3/10/98 registered by school teacher from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Drove 21207 miles. Sold at Bloomington Gold in Bloomington in June 2001 with 45227 miles showing. We have owned the car since 2001. Traded car at Bill Jacobs Chevrolet, Joliet, Il. on 5/10/13--83,337 miles. When we traded this car, I was cleaning out the console and rear compartments, in the rear compartment was this plastic bag with the locking lug nuts and socket and foam sleeve and instructions. I looks like they were never installed on the car. When we traded the car in it had regular 1996 lug nuts on it and no locks. I'm thinking that no one ever looked in that compartment, and never installed the locking lug nuts, as there is no evidence that they were ever turned with a wrench. Is it possible that at some point in it's life, these were bought over the counter? I think the part # (22575362) is too late for this car. When did they begin 8 digit part numbers?

Pat, Big Jake is/was the owner of the car and has provided us with details.

Re: Who makes OEM C4 keys with knockouts?

Folks, according to the parts book the number for the wheel locking kit from 1986 to 1996 is 999057. We had a prior discussion on the relation between the parts book number and the number on the plastic bag and they do not agree, which I am told is alright.

The bag and contents that have been produced here do not resemble any other wheel locking kits that I have in my data base. This does not mean it is not correct for some application of a Corvette. I just do not have anything like it.

One of the differences I saw is the holder for the locking wheel lug attachment. Most of the ones I have seen are a cloth type, with a Velcro strap, this looks like foam.

Also the instruction sheet is not typical of the ones that I have in the data base.

Once again, it could be correct for some application for the Corvette, I have just not seen this type before.
