    Exhaust valve repair, Help!

Need help on how to repair an intake or exhaust valve tip.
Just had two push rods bent at the #2 cylinder of my SBC 327.
Appears the rocker "walked" off the tip of the exhaust valve. The valve tip is slightly damaged and so is the tip of the rocker arm. Can the valve tip be repaired? Or can a self aligning rocker be used? Or do I need to remove the head and replace the damaged valve?
    Desperate for a simple solution!

    Ralphie,

You need to have a machinist that does heads to looks at the valve tip and make that determination. Using a self aligning rocker to mask a problem will pop up again down the road. Maybe so far down the road that you will have to be towed home!

Ralph, another thing that can sometimes happen is the rocker stud can wear on one side causing the rocker to walk off the valve. removing the rocker and careful inspection of the stud will tell you.

        Thanks JR and Ed.
Believe the right way is to remove the head. Upon further examination I found the stud is worn on one side as well.
Guess it is time to send the head to the machine shop.

But, I guess the questions are still the same, Could the valve tip be repaired? Or can a self aligning rocker be used?

          Ralphie,

Do it right and take both heads to the machine shop. Replace the valves, springs, retainers and keepers. Add hardened seats, screw in studs and guide plates. It will work out better as it sounds like your heads have a lot of miles.
