50 years ago we used coca cola to clean rust off our chrome handlebars on our bikes Not sure if the current watered down formula would still do this. Does anyone have any "home remedies" for cleaning slight surface rust on chrome ?Thank you in advance Kurt

Re: Rust removal question
Can you spell EVAPORUST! Works better than Coke ever did, and the parts won't get fat from all that high fructose corn sweetener. Or, if it's light, try chrome polish. If the area is on a large part, which I'm guessing it is if it's chrome, you might want to soak a paper shop towel in Evaporust, lay it on the area then cover the area and the towel with plastic wrap to keep evaporation to a minimum. Works great.Kurt Geis

Re: Rust removal question
Kurt, G., I've used Evaporust and that stuff really works well. The part has to dipped in it for several hours (even overnight depending on the degree of rust) in order to get the best results. Just maybe, if it's light rust, Autosol chrome polish can be helpful.Ed Nieves

Re: Rust removal question
I use Mother's Mag Wheel polish, it will remove surface rust on chrome. However, like Ed and Kurt said, nothing beats Evaporust , it's just amazing. I just did an overnite soak on my sunvisor parts that had surface rust on them, came out beautiful.Attached Files- Top

Re: Rust removal question
I have used the crumpled up aluminum foil and water method and it worked well on my 60.

Re: Rust removal question
The least expensive solution for steel and still harmless to paint, chrome, plastic is: Molasses and Water, 1 part molasses to 10 parts water, drop it in and let it soak. It works though not as fast Evapo-Rust or Safest Rust both which must soak also.- Top

Re: Rust removal question
I don't know how it reacts to chrome but vinegar works really good for removing rust. You may have to let it sit overnight or so but it's cheap and easy to find:-)- Top
