    Wheel weights

Researching C-1 wheel weights. Vast majority are "micro" made by BADA. Have seen original owner Bowtie cars with "U" cast in weights. Anyone know which company made these ?

    Thanks

    Re: Wheel weights

    John,

Some years ago when I did the research on C2 wheel weights, I spoke with a representative from the Perfect Equipment Company, which is one of the few surviving companies that made weights in the 1960s. The person told me that in the 1960's there were five vendors who supplied GM with wheel weights: Bada Co.; Perfect Equipment Co.; Wheel Weights, inc.; Speed-Clip Manufacturing Corp.; and Salmon.

The logo on the Bada weights using during the C2 era are micro and AM (for 1/2 oz weights). The logo for the weights made by Perfect Equipment was a right-directed arrow piercing a slanted letter P. I was never able to determine what logos were used by the three other companies. Some original wheel weights for C2-era cars also had a LH within a parallelogram, or the letters OEM, and or digits 14 within an oval. I was never able to determine who made those weighs, but my presumption is it was one of the latter 3 companies listed above. Also, weights for aluminum knock-offs during the C2 era has the letters AL as the logo. I don't recall who made them.

I've never seen a wheel weight with the letter U, but I've never looked at C1 wheels either. If you've U logo weights on C1 cars, I think that style of weight must have disappeared by the start of the C2 era, since I've never heard from a C2 owner with such a weight. I suppose that the U logo weight could come from any of the companies I mentioned above, especially one of the latter three. But that's just pure speculation on my part.
