Did the original 1963-64 ignition coil 1115087 have the shoulders on the tower or were they smooth with the holes and clips with the tangs? Thanks

I know nuthin' about 087 coils, but here's two pics; first w/o shoulders, with tangs in holes. 2nd shows the dot between "12" and "V" [rather than a dash]; I've seen this on a T.I. 1115210 coil as well. Probably both shots are from eBay, not the same coil.Last edited by Wayne M.; May 12, 2013, 12:40 PM.- Top

They even made coils with shoulders AND holes, as shown on this original late 62 091 coil...now residing on my 63. They must've gotten confused during the changeover period

Re: 1963-64 ignition coil "087" ?
Kevin, Say your '63 required an '091. I know a lot about the '091's but not a whole lot on the '087's. My '63 had a temporary coil on it for it's first show. Had a NOS '087 with shoulders and didn't get a deduct. The 6th edition coil info is on page 99 and 100.
States that ALL early '63 coils were '091. Then it states that Mid to late 63's (starting with Feb) used the '087 for the 250 and 300 HP.
Don't forget to use the D1110 BR with the '087. If you car equires the '087 I would use the one with the shoulders.
If you were using an '091 it would have the shoulders and holes on the top no matter early or late. Now older '091's did not have the so called shoulders on the tower.
Real deal '091s' that most of us have seen have the embossed info toward the bottom. The repro has the info toward the top. Yes I have read a ton of posts to the contrary but won't get into that.
Note: When having your car judged you may have to unloosen the coil to swivel it so the numbers can be visible. Don't forget to put it back in it's original position before you put the shield on to avoid frying the wiring. John- Top
