Work on my 67 2 questions

I need an idea on the degree of difficulty for these 2 projects:

    1. Repaint the original, faded dash pad - is it a DIY project or need professional?
    2. Parking break works but not holding on slops - how do you adjust & same questions as above DIY or have it done?

    Comments would be appreciated.

Ron, niether of these tasks are very difficult, but like everything else, it will take a little time and patience.

Your dash pad can be dyed and your favorite Corvette supply house will have those dyes, some even in aerosol cans. There is some information in the archives on this. Carefully tape everything that does'nt need painting and go slow. If you want a professional look, the pads need to come off, which you can also do but the clips do cause some people problems.

It sounds like your parking brake cable has stretched. I believe that there is an adjustment at the base of the handle but without looking this up I'm not sure. The adjustment may be on later models.

As Paul said, you can get the correct dye from most of the Corvette vendors as well as a auto paint supply shop.

As for the parking brake, well.....they never were that great to begin with. Follow the procedure in the service manual and you should be good. No to mean that it will ever stop on a dime or hold on a slope. Put the car in gear and steer into the curb to prevent roll-aways.

The adjustment is right in front of the rear end or should I say at the end of the first cable, if that is maxed out then pull the rear hubs and there will be an adjuster in there like the old shoe brakes, IF there is any pads on the parking brake shoes left.

The parking brake adjustment sequence/procedure is in the Chassis Service Manual. The short version is that you adjust the shoes first with the starwheels, and the main cable last at the equalizer connection. The starwheel adjusters are accessed through aligned adjustment holes in the rotor and spindle flange after you remove the rear wheels; no need to remove the rotors unless someone else already has, and re-installed them mis-indexed, blocking the access hole.

            Ron:

It is Joe B. here in Houston. I have done the pad dye restoration. It is relatively easy. Catch up with me through Leon if you have questions. I would take them off to do it properly.

Joe, I should have asked you last Sunday. I'll see you soon. There is no hurry to start either jobs.

Thanks to all for the input.
